For several reasons I try to avoid frying as much as I can. Possibly the main one being the MESS! Fat splattered everywhere - ugh.

Splatter guards are definitely answer. This one is new to me and a revelation compared to my old ones (which, as a result, are now no longer!).

Large enough to fit up to 33cm pans, with grooved ridges to secure onto different, smaller sized pans. Hence, only one guard is needed for most pans.  The soft handle locks in the open position and folds down for compact storage, or it can be hung up.  

The slight dome shape keeps fat in the pan and away from the cooker surface.   

As well as frying, I find this useful for cooking tomato related recipes, notorious for splashing everywhere, as well as polenta and apples.
